MY STORY
There was a moment when it all clicked.
I'm Dr. Katie Rowan - a board-certified internal medicine physician who built this practice for women seeking answers because the system I was trained in didn't have room for the kind of care these patients deserve.

I had been going down a rabbit hole I hadn't planned on. My sister was perimenopausal and asked me what I thought about hormone therapy. I didn't have a real answer. I assumed that was a gynecologist's territory, told her to ask hers, and moved on. But patients were asking me the same question, and that bothered me. People ask their PCPs about everything. I should at least know enough to have an opinion.
So I started learning. Just enough to give an answer, I told myself.
Then one day it clicked. I was seeing a patient — tired, not sleeping well, mood off, nothing that fit neatly into anything — and suddenly I had a framework for what I was looking at. I thought about the women before her. The ones I had seen every single day with the same pattern: fatigue, mood changes, poor sleep, a sense that they just didn't feel like themselves. The ones I had told to sleep more, stress less, eat better.
The ones I wished I could call back.
I couldn't. But I could make sure it didn't keep happening.
The more I learned about perimenopause and menopause, the more I understood how much had been missed. Not just by me, but across medicine. The fear around hormone therapy traced back to a single flawed 2002 study that shaped how an entire generation of physicians practiced. Most of medicine never corrected course. Women paid the price. They still are.
But learning about hormones did something else. It showed me that medical training has blind spots. Real ones. And once I saw that, I couldn't stop looking for what else was missing.
Once I saw the blind spots, I couldn't stop looking for what else was missing.
That search led me deeper. Into GI symptoms that had been labeled IBS for years without anyone looking for an underlying cause. Into chronic pain that had been called fibromyalgia without anyone asking why. Into connective tissue disorders that are far more common than once thought, that produce vague and overlapping symptoms, that have been dismissed as anxiety or stress in exactly the same way hormonal symptoms have been.
And into the connections between all of it — because hormonal changes can make these conditions worse, which means the woman sitting across from me in perimenopause may have several things going on at once that nobody has ever put together.
This isn't information that gets taught in medical school or covered in most residency programs. It exists in the research, in specialist communities, in the work of clinicians who refused to stop at the standard answer. I spend my time outside of patient care finding it, learning it, and bringing it into practice.
I built Katie Rowan Wellness because the standard system does not have room for this work. Insurance-based medicine runs on volume. Short appointments, quick answers, move to the next patient. There is no space in that model for the kind of listening, the kind of thoroughness, that these patients deserve.
So I built a practice where there is.
If you've been told everything looks normal and you know that's not the whole story - you are exactly who I built this for.
