INSURANCE & COST
Clear, upfront, and nothing buried in the fine print.
Katie Rowan Wellness is a private-pay, out-of-network practice. That's a deliberate choice - and this page explains what it means for you, what it costs, and how reimbursement works.
WHY OUT-OF-NETWORK
A different model, because the standard one hasn't served you.
Traditional insurance models reward quick visits and surface-level care. Operating outside of that system is how I'm able to spend real time with each patient, build personalized care plans, and stay available between visits - without the limitations and red tape that insurance imposes.
To truly listen and partner with you on your health, we need more time than a 15-minute slot allows. This model is what makes that possible.
The cost isn't the price of the care.
It's the price of the time.
If you've paid out-of-pocket for specialists before, for supplements you weren't sure would help, for appointments that led nowhere - you already know what care without a plan costs. This is care with a plan. Priced honestly, explained in advance, and built around the work that actually needs doing.
APPOINTMENT FEES
What you'll pay.
All fees are transparent and shared before your first visit. For in-person appointments, payment is due at the time of the visit. For virtual appointments, payment is due at the time of booking.
NEW PATIENT CONSULTATION
Your first visit
$400 60+ minutes
- Comprehensive review of your symptoms, history, and goals
- Review of prior labs, imaging, and records
- A personalized treatment plan
- Coordination with your existing providers, when relevant
- Messaging access for 60 days to review labs, answer questions, and check in
FOLLOW-UP VISIT
Ongoing care
$250 30 minutes
- Review of progress, symptoms, and lab results
- Adjustments to your care plan
- Discussion of new concerns as they come up
- Continued coordination with your broader care team
What's not included in the visit fee
Lab work, imaging, and prescriptions aren't part of the visit fee. These are typically billed through your insurance and are often covered even when your physician is out-of-network - worth checking with your insurer before your labs are drawn. Prescriptions are sent directly to your pharmacy of choice and billed through your pharmacy benefits.
OUT-OF-NETWORK REIMBURSEMENT
How reimbursement works.
Many patients recover a meaningful portion of their visit fees through their insurance company's out-of-network benefits. Here's how the process works.
You pay at the time of service
Visit fees are paid up front - in person for in-office visits, or at the time of booking for virtual visits.
You receive a superbill through the portal
After your visit, I'll provide a superbill through the patient portal - an itemized receipt with the codes your insurer needs to process reimbursement.
You submit it to your insurer
You submit the superbill to your insurance company. Any reimbursement comes directly from them to you, based on your out-of-network benefits.
A note for NYSHIP members
NYSHIP patients typically receive around 80% reimbursement of visit fees.
Before your first visit - a call to your insurer
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask what your out-of-network benefits are for office visits with an internal medicine physician.
Useful questions:
- What is my out-of-network deductible?
- What percentage is reimbursed once the deductible is met?
- Is a referral required for reimbursement?
PAYMENT DETAILS
The practical stuff.
In-person payment
Credit card, HSA card, FSA card, Venmo, Zelle, or cash. Payment is collected at the time of your visit.
Virtual payment
Credit card, HSA card, or FSA card. Payment is collected at the time of booking to reserve your appointment.
HSA & FSA
Both are accepted for in-person and virtual visits. Visit fees qualify as eligible medical expenses.
Medicare & Medicaid
Unfortunately, I'm not able to see patients covered by Medicare or Medicaid at this time due to the restrictions these plans place on out-of-network providers.
Labs & Imaging
Ordered through a local lab or imaging facility near you and billed directly by that provider. These are often covered by your insurance even when your physician visit is out-of-network.
Prescriptions
Sent directly to your pharmacy of choice and billed through your pharmacy benefits as usual.
Cancellation policy
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice or missed entirely may be charged the full visit fee.
(Life happens - if you need to reschedule, the sooner you can let me know, the better.)
If cost is the question, let's talk about it directly.
Before you book, email me with your questions. It's better to have the conversation up front than to let uncertainty get in the way of care that could actually help.
